# How can I create a basic *dashboard*?

[Here](https://www.alphacast.io/repositories/3189/insights) you will find some examples that will be useful when building your own dashboard

## Saving charts on your clipboard

Before you start creating your first dashboard, it's useful you preselect the charts that you want to work with using the **clipboard**. The clipboard allows you to have all the charts you want to add at hand. Access it via the hook button at the top right of the screen

For that, you will have to click on the **clip chart** button below each graphic and voila, it is already saved in the clipboard.

## Starting point

To create and publish a dashboard, find and click the button in the upper right of the site "Create New" and select "Insight". The window on the left is the editor. There you can add a title, subtitles, and all the charts you want to visualize on your dashboard. The window on the right shows a previsualization of the left side. 

Follow the instructions already written to help you in the process but **delete them to start editing!**

Headers can be included by using #, ##, ###, ####
Alphacast charts can be included by using '@chart' and '@Ncharts'. Then paste the URL of the chart you want to include
Images can be inserted using the icon in the toolbar above
Explore the toolbar for more options: Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough and more
Insights are created with Markdown language. For a full reference of markdown, features see here

## Adding charts from clipboard

Once you have already clipped all the charts you are interested in, it is time to add them to your dashboard! 
To do this, you have to click on the clipboard button and swipe the charts to the left one by one.
It is not so important to keep the order since later you can order them as you want!
Drag and drop the charts to add them to the insight.

Then click on **switch to dashboard view** to see what your dashboard would look like

## Sorting and rescaling

you can change the order of the charts by dragging them from one position to another and you can also resize from the bottom right corner of each chart to have a better view of your dashboard as seen below

## Publishing and sharing your dashboard
Once you are done customizing your dashboard you can publish it. 

If your repository is private, you can choose between two options: *Restricted* (your dashboard is restricted to users with repository access) and *anyone with the link* (Even users without access to your repository will be able to read your dashboard. It will not be listed to public users.). 

If your repository is public, your dashboard can be seen by everyone. Also, you can tag your dashboard so it will be easier for the community to find it.

Then, you are ready to **PUBLISH IT!** 

## Last but not least

What is most important about our dashboards is that you don't have to update the data every time you want to check it! The **dashboards in Alphacast are automatically updated every time new data comes out**!!

# On the wait for the agreement with the IMF

Next week the Minister of Economy will present to the National Congress his "multi-year plan", with the axis of the economic policy for the coming years, in the framework of an agreement with the IMF - which the authorities have been saying for a while that it is "almost closed".

But beyond the much-needed economic roadmap for the medium term, **the short-term situation is pressing**. The Central Bank has few reserves and the undervalued FX rate of recent months worsens the situation: an explosive cocktail for devaluation expectations.

**Will the summer of 2014 be repeated, or could the government reach the months of liquidation of the gross harvest without a discrete jump in the FX rate?**


## The FX situation and a hot summer

**Net reserves are at critical levels.** When the exchange rate jumped 23% monthly in January 2014, net reserves were at an estimated USD 19 bn. Nowadays the situation is more delicate: **the Central Bank has just over USD 6 bn of net reserves**.

The strategy of using the exchange rate as an anchor against inflation did not yield the desired results and the average monthly inflation since March has been 3.5%. However, intervening on the nominal exchange rate led to an undervalued real exchange rate, which is at its lowest level since May 2018 (pre-devaluation). And only 3% above December 2013 level.

The increase in the spread between the official rate and the blue-chip-swap rate, on the other hand, creates incentives to advance import payments and delay the liquidation of exports- which has been offset by the high prices of commodities, which are now falling. **The spread is well above 100% and reducing it will be a priority in an agreement with the IMF.**

In this context, **last October the Central Bank decided to partially close the tap on payments of goods imports.** Not only did advance payments on imports fall -which are more affected by the dynamics of the FX gap- but also those made when the merchandise was on the way or was already in the country.

And with this, the Central Bank managed to buy about USD 207 million in October. But aware that stopping imports would affect the level of activity, in November the obstacles were reduced... and the Central Bank had to sell USD 889 million.

**How long can this dynamic be sustained? Will March be reached without exchange rate shocks?** The official answer is that an exchange rate jump is not in the plans, but that the rate of depreciation will accelerate "to the extent that prices allow it."

## Growth: the solution to all problems?

**Economic activity is recovering.** The sectors that were most affected by the closing of previous months today are pushing activity, while industry and construction remain at good levels, although they have lost dynamism. But the openings (and salary increases in recent months) have helped the recovery of consumption in sectors such as restaurants and hotels, cinemas, theaters and transport.

**Although there are still no details of the "multi-year plan", the official communication so far indicates that the solution to the exchange rate, fiscal and even inflation problems will be through growth. But is it enough to just grow?**


**Even assuming that the recipe works - it is not our view - there are risks for next year's growth.** It is true, the statistical carry-over is very high and if there is no recession, the economy could grow above 3%. But the external context of 2022 will be different from that of 2021. The prices of agricultural commodities have fallen and, if the dollar strengthens, they will continue to fall. Brazil, our main trading partner, officially entered a recession and the outlook for next year continues to worsen. In addition, world inflation predicts an increase in interest rates, which would put pressure on emerging economies. And the pandemic has not yet been overcome.


**The outlook is complex, and any government plan should aim to reduce uncertainty for the next few years -but also for next summer.**

# Crowding Out | CEA Perspectivas

### Columna Perspectivas del mes de octubre 2021. Esta sección del Centro de Economía Aplicada (CEA) de la UCEMA provee un análisis de destacados economistas con orientaciones y enfoques diferentes respecto de los problemas económicos de nuestro país y el mundo

El plan para pagar la deuda es crecer. El plan para reducir el déficit fiscal es crecer. El plan para bajar la inflación es crecer. El plan para reducir de la pobreza es crecer. Parece ser que la solución para todo es el crecimiento económico. Lamentablemente no crecemos. Las causas del estancamiento económico (para ser generosos) que nos tiene atrapados desde 2011 sin dudas son muchas, pero hoy me quiero concentrar en una: la falta de crédito al sector privado productivo.

Para crecer hay que invertir. Si un emprendedor quiere invertir tiene dos caminos, puede utilizar fondos propios o puede recurrir al mercado de capitales y conseguir fondos de terceros. El mercado de capitales argentino es inexistente. De acuerdo con el Banco Mundial, la capitalización de mercado de todas las empresas que cotizan públicamente en Argentina equivale a 8,8% del PBI. En Brasil la capitalización bursátil equivale a 68,4% del PBI, en Chile es 73%, en China es 83% y en EE. UU. la cifra llega a 194,5%. Claramente fondearse en la bolsa es imposible en nuestro país. Otro camino para conseguir fondos es ir a un banco y pedir prestado. Sin embargo, como veremos a continuación esto no es tan fácil.

Para que un banco pueda prestar plata tiene que conseguir depósitos. Los depósitos en los bancos vienen cayendo continuamente desde un máximo de 20% PBI en 2004 a un piso de 12% en 2019. Si bien hubo una fuerte recuperación en 2020 por la pandemia, parece ser que estamos retornando rápidamente a la tendencia prepandemia. Como comparación, en EE. UU. los depósitos en los bancos aumentaron del 65% al 80% del PBI en el período 2004 – 2019.

En Argentina tenemos el problema adicional de que el sector privado tienen que competir por el escaso crédito bancario con el sector público. En 2004 el crédito al sector privado representaba un 30% de los depósitos y 6% del PBI. Gracias al superávit fiscal de principios de la década de 2000, las necesidades de financiamiento del sector público cedieron y los préstamos al sector privado crecieron hasta alcanzar un pico de 70% de los depósitos y 12% del PBI en 2013. En 2014 el sector privado tuvo que volver a competir fuertemente por el crédito con el sector público, pero esta vez con el BCRA.

En diciembre de 2013 los pasivos remunerados del BCRA (pases netos, Lebacs, Leliqs, etc.) representaban un 3% del PBI, 19% de los depósitos y 28% de los préstamos al sector privado. A fines de 2017 los pasivos remunerados habían crecido hasta alcanzar 10% del PBI, 72% de los depósitos y 97% de los préstamos al sector privado. Licuación, corrida y rescate de por medio, los pasivos remunerados del BCRA pasaron a representar 5% del PBI, 37% de los depósitos y 67% de los préstamos al sector privado en el cuarto trimestre de 2019. Desde entonces volvieron a aumentar a 8% del PBI, 48% de los depósitos y 120% de los préstamos al sector privado. Para el que no es bueno con los porcentajes, pongo lo dicho en pesos: al 18 de octubre de 2021 los préstamos al sector privado eran 3,4 billones de pesos mientras que en esa misma fecha los bancos le prestaban al BCRA un total de 4,3 billones de pesos. O sea que los argentinos le estamos prestando más de la mitad de nuestros depósitos al Banco Central en lugar de prestarle a otros argentinos.

Lamentablemente, la triste historia del emprendedor que quiere conseguir un crédito para invertir no termina acá. Los depósitos son bajos, menos del 20% del PBI, y más del 60% van a parar al BCRA. De lo que queda para el sector privado la mayoría se usa para financiar consumo con préstamos a muy corto plazo. Los préstamos prendarios representan un 6% del total de los préstamos al sector privado, los personales un 17% y el financiamiento de las tarjetas de crédito un 29% del total. O sea, más de la mitad de los préstamos (52%) son para financiar las compras del supermercado, televisores, celulares, ciclomotores y eventualmente un auto. El otro 48% se compone de un 8% de crédito hipotecarios y 11% de adelantos de cuenta corriente. Lo cual solo nos deja un 30% del total de los ínfimos préstamos al sector privado para financiar inversión productiva. Dado que los préstamos son menos de 40% de los depósitos y estos a su vez son 15% del PBI entonces estamos hablando de 1,8% del PBI de crédito que es canalizado por el sistema bancario para financiar el crecimiento. Apaguen la luz.

##  Activity in Latin America during the Covid-19 shock

**The pandemic outbreak and the subsequent domestic policy response deeply affected LAC economies.** Activity dropped between -11% (Peru) and 0.4% (Paraguay) in 2020, though intra-year dynamics were slightly heterogeneous. For some (notably, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina), the downfall was "fast and furious", concentrating in 2021's early months. For others, the recession was milder and more distributed along the year.

**The deeper the fall, the faster the recovery.** Unsurprisingly, the speed of economic recovery was also different between countries. Those which suffered most and earlier recovered stronger and faster than others.

**Activity in Latin America was trying to recover when the "second wave" hit our shores.** Regardless of specific dynamics, most LAC economies where close to pre-pandemic levels (some above -Ecuador- and others below -Argentina-) by end-Q1. With the renewed pandemic outbreak, early data shows that activity has suffered another setback. The extent of the economic damage will depend, of course, on the severity of the contagion and the associated policy response. After last year's experience, most governments seem reluctant to implement harsh nation-wide lockdowns.

## Latin America EMBI: Argentina's uptrend
 
In response to the uncertainty brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Latin America's economies showed an increase in their sovereign spread, with Argentina having the second-highest rate (4,361 bps, lower than Venezuela's 3,500 bps). As the year went through and the pandemic's first wave winded down, LAC's risk premia moved downward and, eventually, stabilized.

Argentina did not share the same luck as its neighbors. Although its country risk dropped after the debt exchange (September 2020), since then it has moved upwards, reaching 1,505 bps by early June. Investors seem very wary about the creditworthiness of Argentina's national government: for them, (another) sovereign default seems likely to happen.

## IMF - World Economic Outlook 
 
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) publishes data on world economic developments. Latin America was hard hit by Covid-19 last year, and the South Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay) was no different. However, not every economy suffered alike. Argentina's GDP dropped the most in 2020 (-10%) and the IMF forecasts that after a relatively better performance in 2021 (+5.8%), its growth rate will lag behind that of its neighbors (+2.5% in 2022 and a deceleration to +1.5% by 2026).
